About the Project

The project aims at popularizing the nature of National park "Pirin" and at giving an open public space for a dialog between the stakeholders and the wide public relating the nature destructive project for building new ski tracks near Bansko.

BlueLink, the virtual information network of Bulgarian civil society environmental organizations initiated a civil society web portal for Pirin National Park on the basis of the online campaign Save Pirin, which BlueLink already supports for 2 years. The creation of the portal is urgently needed as the problem is still acute - even after the Ministry of Environment and Waters allowed the construction of new ski tracks. The voices of activists, experts, conscious scientists and journalists who oppose the government's plans are being muted by the choir of political, media and business voices serving the commercial interests.

The portal aims at popularizing the nature of Pirin National Park in a way make the public aware about projects and actions, which were initiated to save this treasure nature gift. Particular attention and focus is given in representing the work of non-governmental organisations. The Pirin portal presents information about current efforts, activities, projects for saving Pirin's biodiversity.

Pirin Portal was developed with the financial support of Pirin Project of Bulgarian-Swiss Biodiversity Conservation Programme.
