Bulgaria at the Global Greenaccord Forum on Integral Ecology and Journalism in Treviso, Italy
From 18 to 21 March 2026, the Italian city of Treviso hosts journalists, scientists, institutions and businesses engaged in the ecological transition and public responsibility. The XVII International Greenaccord Forum places the concept of “integral ecology” at the center – as a framework linking environment, economy, social justice and culture.
The event brings together more than 100 journalists from over 40 countries, along with representatives of public administration, academia and innovative businesses. Over four days, Treviso functions as a “distributed global newsroom”, where ideas, practices and perspectives on the future of environmental journalism and sustainable development are exchanged, explained at the opening by Greenaccord Foundation President Alfonso Cauteruccio (pictured on the left, together with Paganini Prize winner Giuseppe Gibboni).

Long-term dialogue between science and journalism
BlueLink has participated in the Forum since its inception in the early 2000s, when its connections to the international network were formed around the RSEbl scientific symposia. Over the years, the Greenaccord Forum has established itself as a rare space where scientific knowledge and journalistic practice do not merely coexist, but develop in dialogue.
This continuity remains relevant today. In a context of increasing climate risks, information crises and political fragmentation, the Forum offers conditions for a deeper understanding of complex processes – beyond the news cycle and superficial interpretations.
BlueLink’s participation in this year’s edition continues this line. Pavel Antonov, Executive Editor and co-founder of BlueLink, contributes to the Forum with a perspective shaped by the organisation’s long-standing work in environmental journalism and civic communication.
“The Greenaccord Forum is one of the few spaces where journalism does not simply report on environmental processes, but participates in making sense of them together with science and policy. For us at BlueLink, this is a long-term conversation – about how public understanding of climate change is built and how media can act responsibly in conditions of uncertainty and pressure,” Antonov said (pictured below).

Integral ecology as a framework for action
The theme of “integral ecology” sets the overall framework of discussions at this year’s Greenaccord edition. It implies that environmental problems cannot be considered in isolation – neither from economic models, nor from social inequalities, nor from cultural attitudes, explained the Forum’s scientific director Andrea Masulo.
In this sense, the Forum goes beyond technical solutions. It addresses issues such as sustainable territorial management, the role of cultural industries, the impact of digital platforms on public attitudes and the need for new forms of international cooperation. One of this year’s highlights is the collaboration between the Triveneto region and the State of Colorado in the United States. The two regions share a similar “mountain profile” – with economies dependent on tourism, sports and natural resources, as well as growing attention to sustainability policies.
Discussions focus on sustainable mobility, spatial planning, clean technologies and natural resource management, linking conceptual debates with real policies and solutions. A significant place in the programme is also given to the sustainability of major international events, including the model of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Approaches to reducing environmental impact and ensuring long-term positive legacy for host communities were presented.
The Forum includes participation from representatives of Europe, North America and Asia, highlighting the global nature of environmental challenges and the need to combine local knowledge with international exchange.
Media, platforms and cultural responsibility
Special attention is given to the role of media and digital platforms. Discussions examine how environmental issues are presented on social media and how cultural content can contribute to public awareness.
These issues are directly related to BlueLink’s work, which explores the interaction between media, technology and public debate. The Forum also includes a session dedicated to climate journalism, emphasising the need to combine knowledge, professional standards and institutional support.
“For BlueLink, participation is an opportunity to ‘calibrate our compass’ against current global approaches and trends, and compare them with our work in Bulgaria and Europe, where environmental issues often intersect with questions of civic oversight, transparency and participation in decision-making affecting the environment,” Antonov added.
A forum with continuity and perspective
Founded in 2003, Greenaccord has built an international network of journalists and experts. The Forum remains a key space for dialogue on sustainability, ecology and public responsibility. For participants, it creates a “fertile ground” for the development of ideas, journalistic practices and international cooperation, Antonov noted.
Previous participation of BlueLink in Greenaccord forums has provided the basis for journalistic investigations and analyses, including:
“Octopus’s Poisoned Gardens”, a report on the illegal dumping of toxic waste near Naples and the links between organised crime and environmental policies;
“Cardinal Baldisseri: The Vatican and the Protection of Nature” – a report from a Greenaccord forum examining the role of the Vatican and the encyclical Laudato Si’; or have generated ideas for follow-up actions, such as those described in
“Dialogue on Climate and Religion” – a text exploring the connection between religion, ecology and climate responsibility, which developed into a new area of BlueLink’s work in 2025.
One more important note
This publication is part of BlueLink’s public-interest mission, which includes:
-
protecting the environment, democracy and the values of a united Europe
-
supporting the citizens who stand for these values
-
through responsible use of digital technologies
-
maintaining BlueLink.net as an independent information forum – a network for civic thinking and action.
