REPORT: Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe
This report was published as part of the transnational project Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe in which BlueLink Foundation took part as a partner from Bulgaria. The project was conducted in 2023 by the European Green Foundation (GEF) with the cooperation of the Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks, Fondation de l'Ecologie Politique, Etopia, Transición Verde, Center for Green Politics, Green House and BlueLink, and with the financial support of the European Parliament.
In a move to understand whether it is possible for Europe to chose degrowth without losing its positions on the international arena, we explored the tensions and possible synergies between degrowth and geopolitics. Workshops and seminars were also organised to spark a conversation between critics of economic growth and progressive thinkers on foreign and security policy.
In April 2023, BlueLink organised the seminar How to defend a post-growth Europe? where researchers, activists and politicians were invited to discuss the vision of a post-growth era in the context of the geopolitical situation in Europe after the military attack on Ukraine. The BlueLink Foundation also hosted two international meetings to hear opinions from Central and Eastern Europe and the global South.
The report can be found here in several languages.
The Bulgarian version of the report contains:
- An essay by project leader Richard Wauters
- Interviews with Sven Biscop, Gabriela Cabaña Alvear, Gaya Herrington, Peter Newell, Julian Popov, Dimitar Sabev and Filka Sekulova
- Political recommendations by the project partners
The project The Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks, Fondation de l’Ecologie Politique, Etopia, Transición Verde, BlueLink Foundation, Center for Green Politics, and Green House think tank, and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.
