Project Re-Vision the Economy in the Balkans: Change Policy not Climate

The opportunities for transformation of the economy towards environmental, low-carbon and energy efficient production, along with increasing prosperity and equity in society, will be analyzed as a part of the regional project “Re-Vision the Economy in the Balkans: Change Policy not Climate”. The project is implemented by the Green European Foundation (gef.eu), BlueLink Foundation, Bulgaria, Association Sunrise, Macedonia and Association Networked, Serbia, with the financial support of the European Parliament.

Without changes in the way we produce our energy or food, build our houses, transport goods and commute to work or for touristic purposes, there is no way to end the overuse of resources and the social inequality and mitigate climate change, remind the partnering organisations.

Under the project a research focused on the EU policies in the field of climate change and renewable energy and green and circular economy was implemented, including the review of strategic EU documents, such as Europe 2020, the EU Energy Roadmap 2050, EU Climate Adaptation Strategy. The project also included the development of 3 green economy national research reports for Bulgaria, Macedonia and Serbia and a Green Politicians Handbook with the most important research results and findings from the 3 participating countries.

Issues of green economy, climate and illiberal democracy were also reviewed and analyzed in journalistic articles published in BlueLink Stories - BlueLink’s regional e-magazine for journalism in the public interest: "A Green Advantage for the CEE Region", "Nature’s Local Guardians", "The Village Gate to Self-Sufficiency".

The project was implemented in the period March - December 2017. A final conference entitled "Eco-innovations for Economic Change and Shared Prosperity" took place on 10th November in Sofia, Bulgaria. The topic of the final project event was chosen to be in line with one of the major priorities of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU, which will start on 1st January 2018: eco-innovations as a drivers to the economic progress and achieving shared prosperity and democratization of the society.
