About BlueLink
Mission and areas of action
BlueLink's charter goal is to support democracy, the environment, and the values of a United Europe by developing the capacity of civil society organizations that share these goals to utilize the Internet strategically and by creating a digital forum for the independent exchange of information among them.
BlueLink is registered in Bulgaria as a public benefit foundation working in the following key areas of action:
- independent exchange of information, electronic tools, and networking among active civic groups and organizations;
- improving the participation of citizens and their organizations in decision-making and their access to information and justice;
- strengthening and practicing professional journalism in the public interest in Bulgaria and the Central European region;
- research, analysis, and advocacy for policies consistent with the foundation's mission.
Methods
The BlueLink Foundation raises funds to support and implement activities and projects that advance its mission. These include strategic use of the Internet, public interest journalism, research, and advocacy for policies that support civic movements and organizations that uphold values and goals similar to ours.
The main tools for implementing the foundation's mission are: BlueLink.net, the Network for Civic Activism; EuroMegdan, an e-magazine in Bulgarian for journalism in the public interest; and BlueLink Stories, the international English-language publication with the same purpose. As a publisher, BlueLink adheres to the Code of Ethics of the Bulgarian Media.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the supreme body of the BlueLink Foundation. The members of the Board of Trustees at its formation in 2023 are all the founders of BlueLink. As of June 19, 2024, the members of the BlueLink Board of Trustees include
The BlueLink.net civic action network was created in 1998 by ECO-CLUB 2000, Eco-Club "Terra" - Blagoevgrad, the Public Center for Environment and Sustainable Development - Varna, Geoecoclub "Academica" - Veliko Tarnovo, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Biodiversity "Semperviva" - Pernik, "Green Balkans" - Sofia, "For the Earth," Information and Training Center on Ecology. The concept for the network and its initial implementation were carried out by web expert architect Vasil Beiazov, journalist Pavel Antonov, and Dutch activist and expert Willem Oostembrink, at that time representative of Milieukontakt Oost-Europa for Bulgaria. The same organizations (except Semperviva) and individuals became co-founders of the BlueLink Foundation in 1999.
